Section 9f: Appliance purchases

By Rajkamal Rao

Go back to "The first 90 days"

Refrain from purchasing appliances until you have keys to your new apartment/home.  This way you can have your new appliances shipped directly to your new home rather than having to pay twice for shipping - once to the home you arrive into and second to your new home.

While each returning family has its own list of purchases, we believe the following will certainly be on the list:  Water Filter, Microwave, Mixer/Food Processor, Washing Machine, Gas Cooking Range, and Split Air Conditioners (for families relocating to hotter regions).  This list assumes that you shipped your US refrigerator.  Purchasing a dishwasher and a clothes-dryer can possibly wait until the family is settled for a few months.

Please refer to the “Electrical Appliances” section for additional information about appliances.
