Section 9i: Connecting Appliances

Despite complaints you hear from long-time India residents, electricians, plumbers and carpenters are readily available to service you.  They may cost more than what long-time residents would like to pay - but for you these technicians cost very little.  An electrician to install ~30 odd bulbs in your home will cost you INR 150 in labor.

Since your India appliances were all bought new, the dealer will install them for you for free.  Getting your entertainment center connected is also fairly inexpensive - and probably free, if you sign up with a national chain like Tata Sky or Reliance.

You should insist that your cooking gas dealer dispatches a technician to connect your gas cylinder to your new cooking range.  While this too is fairly easy, it may give you a sense of relief to see it completed by a professional.  You may want to consider filming this as a clip on your cellphone so that you always have it with you for the future.  Life in your home cannot begin unless your kitchen is fully functioning and ready.
